    Why Trust Aztec Appliance?

Building a modern, high-quality kitchen is fun, but it's a lot of work. This is because there are so many things to take note of and several decisions to make. All of these decisions and considerations add up to determine the final quality of your kitchen build. That being said, whenever you want to build or renovate a kitchen, one major thing you must consider is size.

    Why is Size Important?

Now you may be wondering,: why is size so important to the building process of my kitchen? That's a very good question! There are two main ways size impacts successful and satisfactory kitchen build.

    Appliance Size Consideration

Kitchen appliances are available in several different sizes, and each size has its particular application. More often than not, appliance size determines the particular appliance you go for. For example, different sizes of the same appliance offer different storage and operational capacities. So you'll always be able to select one that's a perfect match for your in-home needs.

    Installation Size Consideration

As mentioned earlier, appliances vary in size; however, kitchen sizes also vary depending on the particular house in question. The amount of available installation space you have in your kitchen will determine the type of kitchen appliance you go for. Essentially, you'll need to select an appliance whose size perfectly fits your available installation space.

Now that you know why it's important to always consider appliance size whenever you're looking to get a kitchen appliance for yourself, let's take a look at the standard appliance sizes for each kitchen item.

    Washers and Dryers

Washers and dryers can be regarded as must-have appliances for every home. This is because they contribute significantly to ensuring in-home comfort and operational efficiency. Before you pick up that phone to place an order for a washer or dryer, however, you will have to consider several things with respect to size. Some of these factors to consider include the following:

    • Size of Your Family: The size of your family directly impacts the washer and dryer type you'll choose to buy. This is because it will determine the frequency of washing and the amount of dirty laundry load size per washing cycle. If you live by yourself or have a small family, you'll typically have only a small amount of dirty laundry at a time. This means your laundry needs will be more or less met by small to medium washer and dryer sizes. However, if you have a large family, you'll have to do the laundry more, and each dirty laundry load will likely be a lot. As such, you'll be better served opting for bigger washer and dryer options.
    • Available Installation Space: As mentioned earlier, the amount of space you have in your home will affect the type of washer and dryer you purchase. This is because there's really no point in buying washers and dryers that are too big to fit into the space you have for them. Don't know how to calculate and account for installation space? Not to worry, below, you'll find everything you need to know about how to correctly measure installation space in your home.

How To Measure Washing Machine Installation Space

    • Step 1: You first want to use a tape to measure and verify the height, depth and width of the room you want to install your washer and dryer. You'll want to compare the measurements of the room with those of the washer you want to buy.
    • Step 2: Remember that washers and dryers also require hoses as a part of their setups, so you will have to also make allowances for that. In all of these, you should also make sure to leave enough clearance room for your door to be able to open and close without obstruction.
    • Step 3: Just as your washer and dryer need hoses to carry water in and out, they also need to be connected to electricity. So apart from giving space allowance for your hoses, you'll also need to do the same for your washer and dryer's electric cables. All in all, it is recommended you leave at least six inches of space behind your washer and dryer. This will help ensure you're always going to be able to reach the connection points and adjust whenever necessary.

Now it's worth mentioning at this point that there are different washer and dryer dimensions, depending on the type. Below you'll find examples of some washer and dryer types, as well as standard washer and dryer size dimensions.

    Top Load Washer Dimensions

    • Exterior Width: 24 to 28 inches
    • Height: 36 to 45 inches
    • Depth: 24 to 30 inches

    Front Load Washer Dimensions

    • Height: 33 to 42 inches
    • Depth: 20 to 34 inches
    • Capacity: 1.7 to 3.1+ cubic feet (depending on drum size)

    Refrigerators

Do you have a refrigerator in your home? If you don't, it's time for you to seriously consider getting one. This is because refrigerators offer a lot in terms of food storage efficiency and organization. That being said, if you're looking to buy a new refrigerator, you should know that there are different types or styles of refrigerators on the market. These refrigerator types include the following:

    • French Door Refrigerators: French door refrigerators are the easiest types of refrigerators to identify. This is largely because they have a unique double-door refrigerator design and one or two bottom freezers. French door refrigerators are usually more energy-efficient, and they offer a lot of storage room.
    • Side by Side Refrigerators: Side by side refrigerators are similar to their French door counterparts in that they both have a double-door design. The difference, however, lies in the fact that side by side refrigerators do not have a bottom freezer. Instead, one of the refrigerator's doors leads to a fridge and the other to a freezer. While these refrigerators offer excellent cooling results and storage space, you may find it challenging to store big or irregular-shaped items in a side by side refrigerator.
    • Top Freezer Refrigerators: Top freezer refrigerators are actually the most common type of refrigerators on the market. These refrigerators are so popular that you'll also find them in almost every home. Top freezer refrigerators have a pretty simple design that features a small freezer at the tip of the unit while the remaining part of the unit is made up of the refrigerator.
    • Bottom Freezer Refrigerators: Bottom freezer refrigerators look like inverted top freezer refrigerators. It is worth mentioning that bottom freezer refrigerators are usually preferred to top freezer ones because they offer easier access to refrigerator contents. The freezer of a bottom freezer refrigerator is also usually bigger than the freezer compartment offered by top freezer refrigerators.
    • Column Refrigerators: Column refrigerators are a lot different from other refrigerator types in that they only offer refrigerator space. That is, they do not contain a freezer space at all.

    Choosing The Right Refrigerator

Now that you know the different types of options you have with respect to refrigerator types, you probably think you're ready to go refrigerator shopping. However, there is still one important factor you must consider: refrigerator size. You should know that making the correct refrigerator option is impossible without considering refrigerator dimensions. Wondering what a standard refrigerator size looks like? Here are several refrigerator standard appliance sizes for every refrigerator type:

    French Door:

    • Height: From 67 to 70.13 (70 1/8) inches
    • Width: From 29.5 to 36 inches
    • Depth: From 29.38 (29 3/8) to 34.63 (34 5/8) inches

    Side-by-Side:

    • Height: From 65.88 (65 7/8) to 71.25 inches
    • Width: From 32.75 to 39.75 inches
    • Depth: From 28.75 to 34.25 inches

    Bottom Freezer:

    • Height: From 67 to 70 inches
    • Width: From 29.5 inches to 32.75 inches
    • Depth: Around 33.38 (33 3/8) inches

    Top Freezer:

    • Height: From 61.75 to 66.25 inches
    • Width: From 28.75 to 32.75 inches
    • Depth: Around 34.25 inches

Note that all of these refrigerator options are available in the built-in design, and built-in refrigerators tend to take up a lot less space than normal design ones. Knowing the size of a refrigerator option pretty much gives you an indication of its storage capacity. This will help you make the correct refrigerator decision. It will also help you determine if you have enough space for the refrigerator you want to install. Note that when making kitchen measurements, you should also make allowances for refrigerator door opening and closing and ventilation space.

    Cooking Ranges

    dark wood kitchen with range

A cooking range is a kitchen appliance that features a seamless integration of two different cooking appliances (an oven and a cooktop) in one high-functioning unit. If you're looking for a kitchen appliance that'll really let you let loose in terms of cooking versatility and multifunctionality, a cooking range is perfect for you!

You should know that there are three major types of ranges, depending on the type of fuel the range consumes. They include:

You should also note that cooking ranges can also differ in terms of the number of ovens.

    Selecting The Right Cooking Range

The first and probably most important thing to consider when you want to buy a cooking range is the range's size or dimensions. Basically, your focus will be on the amount of space your cooking range is going to take up in your kitchen. Based on all of the above, you will want to consider the installation build type of the cooking range; that is, is it freestanding or slide-in?

Another thing you'll want to consider is the size of your family and your cooking frequency. All of these will help you select the correct cooking range size and type.

    Dishwashers

You should be aware of this by now, but if you aren't, then you should know that your kitchen setup is incomplete without a dishwasher. This is because the presence or absence of a dishwasher in your kitchen is what will determine (to a significant extent) the kind or "quality" of cooking experience you have in your kitchen. So if you still don't have one, get one today!

Before you place an order for a dishwasher, however, there are a number of things you need to know, which will help you select the best dishwasher option for you. Chief of these is dishwasher size. Before buying a dishwasher, you'll want to know what the dishwasher dimensions are for that particular product, as this will save you a lot of trouble.

If you have a large family, you'll want to opt for dishwashers with bigger sizes than the standard dishwasher size. This is because you'll likely have larger loads of dirty plates to wash at a time. You'll also want to consider the amount of available space you have in your preferred installation location. This is because you'll want to avoid buying a dishwasher that's too big to fit into your available space.

Beyond installation space, however, there are several other things you'll also need to consider before choosing a dishwasher. Click here to explore our detailed dishwasher buying guide.

    Ovens, Microwaves, and Cooktops

Many people cannot differentiate between an oven, stove or cooktop and a cooking range. It certainly doesn't help that all of these appliances are usually built into a cooking range. Nevertheless, they are quite different.

    Ovens

Simply put, ovens are cooking appliances that are used to carry out all sorts of grilling, warming and baking activities. When people hear the term "oven," they automatically think the term refers to wall ovens or other freestanding oven types; however, you should know that your microwave is also a type of oven. That being said, you should know that microwave dimensions differ depending on the type of microwave you're considering. As you would expect, different microwave sizes more or less equal different operational capacities as well.

In the same vein, wall oven dimensions also differ depending on the particular oven type. The standard wall oven size is usually between 24 to 30 inches. However, things that will determine the type of wall oven you opt for include:

    • Kitchen size and available installation space.
    • Cooking frequency and load.
    • Types of dishes to be prepared.

    Stoves or Cooktops

Stoves, also known as cooktops, are the major cooking appliance of any kitchen. You will need to use a cooktop to do most of the cooking you'll do in a kitchen. So you'll certainly want to carefully consider your options before choosing a cooktop.

Standard appliance sizes for cooktops (cooktop sizes) can be anywhere from 24" to 36". However, one of the major things that will determine the particular cooktop option you go for is the amount of installation space you have in your kitchen. If your installation space is limited, you'll want to consider stove sizes 30" and below. If you have a larger kitchen size, however, then cooktop sizes above 30"  will be perfect for you.
